Satvik Sambhar

Always use less quantity of Pigeon peas (Toor dhal) & more vegetables to prepare Sambhar.
Use 2 to 4 varieties of the following vegetables to make Sambhar:
  • Radish
  • Ash Gourd
  • Chayote (ChoCho)
  • Brinjal
  • Pumpkin 
  • Indian bean (Broad bean)
  • Carrot
Ingredients: (for 2 people)
  • Toor dal - 50 grams
  • Vegetables - 200 grams
  • Tomato - 2 medium sized
  • Sambhar powder - 3/4 table spoon
  • Rock salt - to taste
  • Water - as required
  • Coriander leaves - little bit
  • Small onion (Optional. If you like the taste of onion, add it along with vegetables & tomato while boiling) - 10 pieces
Method:
  1. Boil Toor Dal separately and keep aside. 
  2. Wash and cut the vegetables into bigger sizes. 
  3. In a separate vessel, put the vegetables, add tomato, Sambhar powder and little bit of salt and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. 
  4. Ensure that the vegetables do not become mushy. 
  5. Now transfer the boiled toor dal in this vessel and cook for 3 to 5 minutes. 
  6. Finally turn-off the stove and add required salt and coriander leaves.
